Gracepoint Ministries is a recovery center that houses women that suffer from drug or alcohol related addictions.
Jennifer Shirley is the ministry organizer, and she says that they can house women 18 and older who have already been detoxed.
"We are a faith-based residential center. That means we use the Bible to teach basic living skills to help women overcome their addictions," Shirley said.
In addition to Gracepoint, Jennifer Shirley and the staff of the ministry have just opened Achor Thrift Store located behind El Norte on Hwy. 19. The ministry group decided to open the store to generate more funding for the ministry.
"We charge when we take in women, and we can house up to 10 women, but there are always those who are unable to pay, and we try to help those women; so we opened up the store to help aid this," Shirley explained.
Shirley feels the ministry has done very well since it was established.
"We just graduated one last Monday from the program, and currently we have six housed at the center," Shirley said.
Achor Thrift Store opened last weekend, and Shirley explained that the store wasn't really something she had to do, but one she felt led to do.
"I wanted to do this a year ago but the timing wasn't right," Shirley said. "I felt the Lord wasn't ready for me to do it, but now the timing is right, and God has given us permission to do this now."
Achor Thrift Store is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
