New Outdoor Book

MERIDIAN — “A Dying Way of Life” is a small book written by Ben Dupree, a North Louisiana family man, teacher, coach, minister and lover of the outdoor life. His memories of his life center around Black Lake and these stories make up the short chapters in this captivating book. He put most of it together over a period of 15 years while waiting in deer stands. Outdoor writers know that is a good place to think clearly and record past experiences accurately.

Dupree's work is an example to all writers for the use of brevity in story telling. He recalls words he once heard that we should mimic the teaching methods of Jesus by “keeping it simple, keeping it short, being content to leaving some things unsaid and forget about impressing others.” He follows these points in his 73 page book, into which is packed the first part of his life of good times in the outdoors.

The stories of “A Dying Way of Life” are filled with humor and remind us of our own experiences. The author “tried it all” just as most of us have who had access to southern woods and waters. He encourages us to see, through his eyes, this outdoor lifestyle that is rare today and perhaps disappearing. His work can be described as a “reality show in print.”

When you have finished reading “A Dying Way of Life,” you will feel refreshed and your mind will be clear of a lot of things that don't really matter and that steal our attention from the things that do.
