Outdoor Notes

MERIDIAN —     A book is about as near perfect Christmas gift as one can get. They are always appreciated, easy to wrap and travel with, simple and inexpensive to mail and they last a lifetime. Here are some fine book suggestions for outdoors enthusiasts – alphabetical by author:

Jim Casada's “Remembering the Greats, Profiles of Turkey Hunting's Old Masters.” All you always wanted to know about 27 famous turkey men who have passed on. Two of these men lived and hunted in the Meridian area. Contact Jim at (803) 329-4354 for ordering information.

Dr. Bobby Dale's “Bearded Rednecks: Showin' their Tails and Struttin' their Stuff.” A diary of memorable, often touching stories of a southern turkey hunter who understands and has experienced the magic that encounters with this wonderful bird enkindles. His Mississippi clan of hunters are focal points of his adventures. Phone him at (662) 840-4648 to order his book.

Jim Spencer has written a book about the gobblers that cost us hours, days and weeks of lost sleep, frustration and how one man has dealt with the inevitable failures of turkey hunting. His book is “Bad Birds.” These birds of Jim's past have done the darndest things. If you hunt spring gobblers, you have been there and it is comforting to know you need not suffer alone. Contact the author at (870) 321-0242.

(Of course see past and future Meridian Star Outdoors pages for information about Mike Giles and Otha Barham books.)
