MERIDIAN — Thirteen-year-old Ryan Payne killed her first buck, a large five point south of Meridian, on January 19. Ryan is an 8th grader at Northeast Middle School.

Ten-year-old Ethan Skipper took his first buck, a fine one, in Kemper County on January 27 with a .243 rifle. The seven point deer weighed 142 pounds. Ethan was hunting with his father Randy Skipper.

Jayla Vance shot a big deer that had been spotted earlier. She passed up a buck her brother, Jaylen, shot several days earlier and got her big buck on the last day of the season.

Eleven-year-old Jaylen Vance and the deer he named Bismarck after the Johnny Horton song "Sink the Bismark." Jaylen shot the buck on January 24 while hunting with his sister Jayla and grandfather Bobby Vance.
