Why just Threefeet of Meridian’s History?

Congratulation to Mayor Smith upon presenting a compelling presentation as to why the Threefoot Building should be preserved! Everyone that knows anything about Meridian can always identify with this one landmark which will remind them, they were in downtown Meridian.

What I can’t understand is how our illustrious mayor can always find resources and grants to preserve segments of our town, where old dilapidated buildings which need facelifts and refurbishing; but ignore other segments of town and communities which are in the same condition.

I also question the timing of this project, considering the other projects which are currently going on as we speak; not to mention, in less than a year from now, we will have a new Mayor!

The one (64) million dollar question, as it relates to all the figures Mayor Smith gave in his eloquent presentation is “Do we really think this hotel will remain at (64%) occupancy year round at ($120.00 per/night)?”

That is what this project is banking upon to generate revenue, in order for the repayment of this (14) million dollar urban loan over the next twenty-years; in order for it to not fall back into the tax payers lap.

Mayor Smith, I guess this is a chance we have to take! It sure would be much easier for citizens of Meridian to take more chances with you and your endeavors if you would have shown equitable economic fairness all throughout this city. This is just another clear example of the special interest concerns of which you have catered to every since you have been in the mayor’s office.

The best advice one must give you now, if we go through with this venture; our tourism division had better come up with some major sight seeing projects/attractions to bring people into our town; and I don’t think the State Games and the Jimmie Rodgers Festival is going to cut it!

The City Council should at least hold you accountable to return back to your grant researchers and funding sources to secure additional funds to take care of the entire city; not just projects which will give you a legacy during your time in office.
