    MACON – Services for Ray Butler will be held Friday, at 11 a.m., at Cockrell Funeral Chapel, Macon, with Bro. Matthew Green and Bro. Gerald Butler officiating. Burial will be in Shuqualak Cemetery with Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Butler, 73, of Shuqualak, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was born April 14, 1939, to the late Henry Hurbert and Christine Presley Butler. He was a graduate of Shuqualak High School and served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. On Dec. 23, 1966, he was married to the former Miss Brenda Thompson, who survives him. Ray was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic who had worked for Presley Construction Company of Shuqualak, Waters Truck and Tractor in Columbus, and for B & W in West Point. He was widely known as a very generous man who actually would, as the saying goes, “give you the shirt off his back”. Ray attended Shuqualak Baptist Church and always enjoyed hunting and fishing.

    Survivors include his wife, Brenda Thompson Butler of Shuqualak; one daughter, Julie Butler (Justin) Moffett of Macon; one brother, Jerry Butler (Gayle) of Meridian; as well as two much beloved grandchildren: Hannah and Parker Moffett.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jimmy Butler; and, also by twin infant brothers.
