Patrick Henry Sanders Jr.

MERIDIAN —

      Memorial services for the Rev. Patrick Henry Sanders Jr. will be held Monday, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Meridian.

    The Rev. Sanders, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at his home. Born on May 30, 1921, in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of Norma Applewhite Sanders and Patrick H. Sanders Sr. Mr. Sanders served in World War II and the Korean Conflict as a Marine Aviator, was an industrial engineer, and then became an Episcopal Priest. He served churches in Jackson, Greenville, Leland, Hollandale, and Laurel, and also churches in Atlanta, Ga., Mobile, Ala., and Jackson, Tenn.

    Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Elaine Cole Sanders; son, Dr. Michael C. Sanders and his wife Peggy of Leverett, Mass.; daughters: Helen S. Sewell of Mobile, Ala., and Barbara S. Waide and her husband John of Nashville, Tenn.; grandsons: Glenn W. Sewell and his wife Jenny Gorgansson of Arlington, Va., and Clayton T. Sanders of Boston, Mass.; granddaughter, Katherine E. Waide of Nashville, Tenn.; and a niece, Susan Porterfield of Royston, Ga.

    Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

            If desired, gifts may be made to the charity of your choice or to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1116 23rd Avenue, Meridian, MS 39301, or to The Patrick H. Sanders Scholarship Fund, Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA 22304.
