On Sept. 13, 2013, Robert O. “Bobby” Shephard, Jr., 70, passed away from a brain tumor. He is survived by his wife Connie Shephard; her children and grandchildren; sister Camille S. Yahm and brother-in-law Stuart of Carrollton, Ga.; nieces, grandnieces, grandnephew and countless Mississippi cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Onita Aldridge and Robert O. Shephard of Atlanta, Ga.
Born in Meridian, Bobby attended schools in Meridian, New Albany, Greenwood, Grenada, and graduated Druid Hills High School, Atlanta, Ga. Bobby holds a BA degree in Sociology from the University of Mississippi, a Teaching Certificate from GA State University, a MEd degree in Guidance and Counseling and an EdS in Administration and Supervision from the University of West GA.
His distinguished career in education proceeded from Jr. High Teacher, Sr. High Vocational Coordinator, Jr. High Counselor, Elementary Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, Middle School Principal, and concluded as a College Level Distance Learning Facilitator. A professional educator, Bobby was active in Phi Delta Theta, a national educational fraternity, and PAGE, Professional Association of GA Educators. He will be remembered for his strong belief that all children deserve a solid public education that would ensure them a prosperous future.
A Memorial Service led by Rev. Richard Bowen was held on Sept. 15 with burial at Floral Hills Cemetery in Decatur, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests bequests in his name be given to a charity of one’s choice or to the Robert O. Shephard Levee Research Fund, at The University of Mississippi Foundation, P.O. Box 249, University, MS 38677-0249.
