Kathy Lynn Jordan

Services for Kathy Lynn Jordan will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Ministries with Apostle Debra Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Jordan, 59, of Meridian, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Kathy Lynn Jordan, lovingly known as Kay Jay, was born Dec. 24, 1953 to Bobbye Nell (Burwell) Riley and Odell Clifton Jordan, Jr. She was the second eldest of seven children in the household of Bobbie and Joe Riley.

While it is difficult to embody all that Kathy exemplified, she is most often described as a confidant, a mother-like figure, skilled caregiver, compassionate, loyal, and loving, a budding chef, faithful, steadfast, a friend and champion in her own right.

Kathy graduated from T. J. Harris and went on to earn her Associate Degree and as a result became a Registered Nurse. She later earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. As a RN she provided the highest level of nursing care as an employee of F. G. Riley Memorial Hospital for over 38 years. Kathy was applauded as the modern day Florence Nightingale. She demonstrated the greatest of compassion throughout her nursing career; whether she was attending to a terminally ill patient or mentoring an upcoming nurse, she performed her tasks with the utmost excellence and care. She was also known as one of the last remaining "white cap" nurses, which she proudly wore while performing her nursing duties..

In the early dawn of day on Nov. 21, 2013, Kathy received her healing in rest. She was surrounded by her spiritual and professional family and held in the arms of her sister, Debra as she entered the presence of the Lord and traversed to live eternally in her heavenly home.

Kay Jay leaves to cherish her memories and to continue her legacy as a person of significance: her loving mother, Bobbye Nell (the late Joe Hayes Riley); her caring father, Odell (Katherine) Jordan, Sr.; siblings, Debra Ann (Sam) Brewer of Meridian, Cassandra Gail (Robert) Loggins of Chesterfield, Marty (Jennifer) Jordan of Meridian, Monty (Julie) Jordan of Lincoln, Neb. Bettye Jones of Meridian, Jennifer Riley-Collins of Clinton, and Iva Jordan and Tonya Jordan, both of Las Vegas, N.V.; a host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, other relatives and cherished friends. She leaves a very special sister friend to keep her spirit alive, Ms. Jan Mardis.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Good Shepherd Ministries and at the church one hour prior to service.

Do you think the city of Meridian should aggressively enforce the city's code enforcement laws on litter, abandoned homes and overgrown lots by issuing tickets and stiff fines?
