Services for Sara “Hace” Gibson will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Carmel Baptist Church, with Brother Joe Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Gibson, age 79, of Meridian, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at The Oaks in Meridian.
Ms. Gibson was a lifelong member of Carmel Baptist Church. She retired from Lockheed-Martin Corporation where she held the position of supervisor. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. Although she never married or had children, her nieces and nephews considered her to be their second mother. Her life revolved around them and their activities. She was an avid Southeast Lauderdale basketball fan and supported them by attending all of their games.
Survivors include her sister, Julia Chambers; sister-in-law, Bobbie Gibson; brother-in-law, Gerald Wright; nieces, Sandra Little, Judy Gilmer, Tammie Dunn, Edith Brakke, and Ellen Miers; nephews, Jimmy Gibson, Mike Thompson, Tony Thompson, Jerry Rutledge, and Larry Drayer; and numerous great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Verdie Gibson; sisters, Grace Childrey and Janie Wright; and brother, James A. “Buddy” Gibson Sr.
The family request memorials be made to Carmel Baptist Church or The Alzheimer’s Association.
Pallbearers will be Larry Whitehead, Ken Herrington, John Flanagan, David Little, Johnny Dunn, Sonny Miller, Gene Lawson, and Joe Miller.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Bean, Billy Ligon, Joe Wilkinson, and John Gilmer.
