James Smith

MERIDIAN — CLINTON - Services for James Smith will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram with interment in Lakewood Memorial Park.

    Mr. Smith, 82, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 at his residence.

     Mr. Smith was born March 23, 1931 in Lauderdale County to the late Annie and James Lafayette Smith. He was the owner of Lott Furniture Company of Jackson and was a dedicated member of McRaven Road Church of Christ, where he served as elder.

    Survivors include his wife, Barbara Morgan Smith of Clinton; son, Jay Andrew Smith, Ph.D. of Fort Myers, Fla.; daughter, Jeanne Ann Rea, M.D. of  Summit; daughter, Jo Allison Barnette (Robert) of Caledonia, and daughter-in-law, Serrie Sims Smith of Summit; grandchildren: James Daniel Smith (Amanda) of Summit, Samantha Dykes of Summit, Morgan Leigh Smith of Starkville, Candace Kay Barnette of Meridian, Alexander Hamilton Rea of Summit, and Hannah Elizabeth Rea of Summit; great-grandchildren, Carsyn Danielle Smith of Summit and Jeremiah Allan Smith of Summit; as well as nephews, Hester Hudnall, Jr., Willie James Hudnall, and Raymond Hudnall, all of Meridian.

    Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, James Allan Smith and by his sister, Sybil Ruth Hudnall.

    Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
