Michael Taleff, M.D.

A service celebrating the life of Michael Taleff will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Meridian, with the church’s Rector, J. Brian Ponder officiating. Dr. Taleff’s cremains will be interred at the church’s columbarium with arrangements by Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.

Dr. Taleff, 76, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at his residence. Mike was born April 6, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the second son of George and Dessa Taleff. After his father’s death in 1940, Mike’s mother married Peter C. Vranich who became the father he knew and loved. Having graduated from the University of Pittsburgh magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, Mike enrolled at Pitt Medical School and afterwards was accepted for internship followed by an internal medicine residency at Presbyterian-University Hospital. There he met the young nursing student Mary Lynne Campbell who became his wife of forty-eight years. The United States Air Force intervened and the newly married couple moved to Selfridge AFB in Michigan. There he completed a three year tour as a flight surgeon which led to a lifelong love of flying.

After a three year ophthalmic residency in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike and Lynne and their two children moved to Meridian in July of 1969 to practice ophthalmology. Dr. Taleff was committed to his patients and truly enjoyed his work.

Dr. Taleff’s survivors include his wife, Mary Lynne Campbell Taleff; his daughter, Janice Lynne Taleff; his son, Eric Michael Taleff and wife Yumiko; two grandchildren: Michael Takashi Taleff and Emily Mari Taleff; and, three nieces: Carol Taleff Irvine, Cynthia Taleff Lentz, and Patricia Taleff Hoffman.

He was predeceased by his parents, George Taleff and Dessa Knezevich Taleff Vranich; his step-father; Peter C. Vranich; and his brother, Alexander Taleff and Al’s wife, Florence.

So then, a full life, lived well with integrity and humility.
