Virginia Rees Byrd


    Services for Virginia Rees Byrd will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Quitman with the Rev. Gene Neal officiating.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.  Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Mrs. Byrd, 89, of Quitman died Friday at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

    Mrs. Byrd was a longtime member and Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church, Quitman. In her later years, she enjoyed and loved being in the Mature Notes Choir at First Baptist Church.

    She is survived by her son, Glenn Byrd and his wife, Carol; daughter, Fran Carothers and her husband, Gene; five grandchildren, Paula Wood, Eddie Byrd, Chamberlan Carothers and his wife, Cassi, Bob Carothers and Chuck Carothers; one great grandchild, Davis Carothers; sisters, Geneva Calhoun and Peggy Patterson and her husband, Carl.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R. Byrd.

    Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at Wright’s Funeral Home and Sunday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church.  Friends may sign online guest register at
