Alice Merele Skipper Duke

MERIDIAN —             Mrs. Duke, 82, of Meridian went home to be with the Lord Monday April 28, 2014 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the oldest daughter of Willie Edward Skipper and Vertine White Skipper. Raised in Bailey, Alice was Centerhill High School’s Most Beautiful and captain of the girl’s basketball team. She went on to work at First National Bank and for twenty-eight years at Myer and Rosenbaum Insurance. Alice Served as President of the Meridian Business and Professional Women and loved boating and fishing.

            Mrs. Duke was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church until her move to Dalewood where she became a member of Lauderdale United Methodist Church. Alice’s trust in the Lord, kindness, hard work and perseverance blessed everyone who knew her.

            Alice is survived by her three children, Earl Wilson, Linda O’Donnell and Gina Noland; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Duke; her parents, Willie and Vertine Skipper; her sisters, Ilene Gunn and Carolyn Carney Creekmore.

            Visitation will be held Friday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home. Services will follow in the chapel with Brother Davey Wilkinson officiating.

            Donations may be made to Prospect Presbyterian Church, Meridian, MS or Page Robbins Adult Day Care, 1961 South Houston Levee Road, Collierville, TN.
