Services for John Kennedy Crampton will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at First Christian Church, with Dr. Tom Sikes and Rev. Lea McCracken officiating. Burial will be in Semmes Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Crampton, 72, of Foley, Ala., and formerly a long time resident of Meridian, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in Mobile, Ala. Mr. Crampton was terminal manager of Campbell 66, Churchill Truck Lines and Con-Way. He was a graduate of Millsaps College and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Crampton served in the U.S. Army. He was very active in the community. He was past president of the Meridian Jaycees, a supporter of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra; he participated in several Meridian Little Theatre Productions and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was also a Deacon of First Christian Church and a Sunday school teacher. He loved history, classical music, his church and his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Libby Grattan Crampton; son, Jay Kennedy Crampton and his wife Michelle Gothard Crampton of Monroe, La.; and son, Neil Mitchell Crampton, also, of Monroe, La., and granddaughter, Elizabeth Antoinette Crampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Kennedy Crampton Sr. and Marguerite Culberson Crampton; and, sisters: Lois Crampton Worrell and Mary Louise Crampton Gower.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and The Southern Cancer Center in Daphne, Ala.
