Norman W. Samuelson, Jr.

MERIDIAN —     Services for Norman W. Samuelson, Jr. will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Larry Hilliard officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

    Mr. Samuelson, 86, of Meridian, died Monday, July 1, 2013 in Sevierville, Tenn.

    Mr. Samuelson retired as Master Chief Petty Officer after 27 years of service in the U.S. Navy.

    He was a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church. Mr. Samuelson delivered Meals on Wheels for over 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, member of the Naval Fleet Reserve, Lakeview Golf Club and Lifetime Quest.

    Survivors include his wife Evelyn Harrison Samuelson; sons, Paul Samuelson and his wife Debbie of Rainbow City, Ala., David L. Samuelson and his wife Ruby of Spring, Texas, and Wes Samuelson of Meridian; step-daughter, Darlene Harrison of Meridian; grandchildren, Amy Samuelson of College Station, Texas,  Patrick Samuelson of Birmingham, Ala., Melissa Freis and husband Blake of The Colony, Texas, Alan Samuelson of Hattiesburg; great-grandson, William Freis of The Colony, Texas; sisters, Mona Kelly of Searcy, Alaska, Myrtle Gainey and husband Ben of Coco Beach, Fla., Sylvia Tramel of Montgomery, Texas, Rosemary Samuelson of Houston, Texas; brother, David W. Samuelson and wife Becky of Wharton, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Samuelson of Valdosta, Ga.; brother-in-law, Bob Williamson and wife Dotsy of Eupora, Ms.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great -nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Williamson Samuelson; parents, Norman W. Samuelson, Sr. and Leslie Farnell Samuelson; brothers, Alvin Samuelson and Melvin Samuelson.

    Pallbearers will be Grady Coleman, Irby Lang, Tootie Ellis, David Litton, Ken LaBruyere, and Lee Brosell.

    Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Missions.

    Visitation will be held Thursday, 5p.m. - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
