NEWTON —     Services for Annie M. Hurst will be held today, at 11 a.m., at Sand Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Jackie Strebeck officiating. Burial will be in Sand Springs Cemetery with Newton County Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Hurst, 93, of Hickory, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. She was a lifelong resident of Newton County. She was the last living chartered member of Sand Springs Baptist Church, a church that she loved dearly. Favorite past times were working in her yard tending to her flowers and spending time with her family.

    Survivors include two sons: Charles Hurst and his wife Mary Jane of Chunky, and Ronnie Hurst of Hickory; one daughter, Margaret Fitzgerald Ellzey of Soso; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Leon Hurst; one son, Bobby "Shank" Hurst; one great-grandchild, Jason Maxwell; one great-great-grandchild, Karlie Jo Fitzgerald; her parents, Sam Henry and Nancy Grantham McNeil; three brothers: Edgar McNeil, Elvin McNeil, and Leon McNeil; and, three sisters: Ethel Hurst, Louise Thomas, and Myrtle Dean Harris.

    Pallbearers will be Kenneth "Shot" Fitzgerald, Bobby Dan Hurst, Gary Hurst, Kenway Hurst, Kenney Fitzgerald, and Colton Hurst.

    Honorary pallbearers are Lee Fitzgerald, Eugene "Scooter" Hurst, Jamie Meaders, and Johnny Dickens.

    Memorials may be made to Sand Springs Baptist Church.

    The family wishes to express their appreciation to Bedford Care Center in Newton for their love, support, and care for their mother during her stay there.
