Mr. Smith, age 72, of Meridian, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Rush Specialty Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi, following a long, courageous battle with acute pancreatitis.

Andy received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Education Degree from Mississippi State University. He did continuing studies in Chemistry at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He worked in public education in Belle Glade, Florida, and Lauderdale County Public School District, where he served as both a teacher and an administrator. Andy was the owner of Three Oaks & Nurseries, LLC, a company he founded 30 years ago. His most recent venture was a step into the locally produced and distributed produce movement, a movement that both excited and motivated him.

Andy was a life-long member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years, earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1959. Scouting continued to hold a special place in his adult life and he supported the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of America, continuing to believe firmly in the ideals that both organizations help to instill in America’s youth.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne E. Smith, and his three sons, Todd Reid and Keith Smith, both from Meridian, Mississippi, and Judd Smith from Denham Springs, Louisiana; his grandsons, Hayden and Ashton; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Joy Smith, from Nashville, Tennessee; his nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.

Andy is preceded in death by his parents, Louie Brooks Smith and Gladys Williams Smith; as well as his sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Smith James.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Building Fund, Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, 4032 Poplar Springs Drive, Meridian, MS 39305. The family of Lawrence Ansel (Andy) Smith wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Rush Specialty Hospital as well as Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church.
