Lillie Hughes

MERIDIAN —     Memorial services for Lillie Hughes will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Meridian. Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home of Douglasville, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.

    Ms. Hughes, 91, of Lithia Springs, Ga., formerly of Meridian, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013. She was born July 25, 1922, in Northport, Ala. Ms. Hughes lived the majority of her life in Meridian, where she raised three children and was extremely active in Central United Methodist Church. She worked more than 30 years at the circulation desk at Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library and upon her retirement was honored with a proclamation from the mayor. She spent the last three years in Georgia with her daughter.

    Survivors include her brother, John Hasson of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; her sons, James Hughes of El Paso, Texas, and Terry Hughes of Middletown, Md.; her daughter, Susan Poynter of Douglasville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Vester M. and Clara Bailey Hasson; her brother, Mack and sister, Doris.

    Memorial donations may be made to Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library, 2517 Seventh St., Meridian, MS 39301 with the notation “in memory of Lillie Hughes."
