The Rev. Richard Ray Proffitt

MERIDIAN —     MACON – Visitation for the Rev. Richard Ray Proffitt will be held Monday, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., at Cockrell Funeral Home.

    The Rev. Proffitt, 98, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Noxubee General Hospital. He was born in Boone County, Ind., on Dec. 23, 1915, to the late Emory Ray and Grace Opal Emmert Proffitt. He was a graduate of Pinnell High School. He worked on a farm and in apple orchards before entering U.S. Marine Corps. He was a staff sergent serving in WWII. The Rev. Profitt moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he became a brick mason. He became a minister in 1963 with the Assembly of God Church. He moved to Shuqualak in 1966, where he worked as a brick mason and minister to DeKalb Christ Assembly Church until he retired.

    Survivors included his daughter, Judy E. Proffitt of Shuqualak; four step-grandchildren; and nieces and a nephew.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to: Noxubee County Library, 103 E. King St., Macon, MS, The 700 Club, PTL Club or any religious organization that reaches the gospel.
