Vernon Alvin Roberts

MERIDIAN — Services for Vernon Alvin Roberts will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Covington and Rev. Grady Crowell officiating. Burial will take place in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Wright’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Roberts, 90, of Quitman, passed away on September 23, 2013, at Lakeside Living Center.

    He was born on August 4, 1923, to A.D. and Sadie Roberts in Marion. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Quitman where he served in leadership positions and was a member of the choir. He was a member of the V. F. W.  Mr. Roberts was a founding member of Quitman Country Club and was an avid golfer.

    Survivors include his wife, Mildred Roberts; sons, Johnny (Judy) Roberts and Al (Nancy) Roberts; daughter, Rose (Bob) Longwitz; grandchildren, Will (Leigh Ann) Longwitz, Wes (Ashley) Longwitz, Adam (Daphne) Roberts, Ross Roberts and Davis Roberts, great-grandchildren, Sophie Longwitz, June Longwitz and John Wesley Longwitz.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, A. D. and Sadie Amanda Roberts.

    Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman.

     Pallbearers will be Bob Longwitz, Will Longwitz, Wes Longwitz, Adam Roberts, Ross Roberts and Davis Roberts.

    Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Online condolences can be given at www.wrightsfuneral.com.
