The Meridian Star

MERIDIAN —     Louise Entrekin Rotenberry died Friday, January 24, 2014 of natural causes in Jackson.

She was born Jan. 24, 1916 to William Thames Entrekin and Lucile Hamrick Entrekin in Waynesboro. She moved with her parents and younger brother to Meridian when she was four years old. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Louise received her diploma from Meridian High School with the Class of 1935. She married Richard Onzelle Rotenberry, Sr. in 1935. They later moved to Oklahoma City, Okla. where he was employed with Tinker Air Force Base. They returned to Meridian in 1968 upon retirement from Tinker and Louise began working at the United Methodist Church's Wesley House where she was affectionately known as "Ms. Louise" because the children couldn't pronounce her last name. She retired from there in 1978.  Louise was a faithful member of CUMC where she taught children's classes, VBS, served in the kitchen for many events, and volunteered with Youth Group activities. Mrs. Rotenberry was very talented in sewing, cooking, canning and general repairs around the house. She was a quick learner and would figure it out on her own if no one could teach her.  Louise was fond of gardening, fishing, crafts and hunting. She and her husband would take annual trips to Colorado to hunt. Mrs. Rotenberry moved to Jackson in 2010 to be near her granddaughter.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, William Hamrick Entrekin.

She is survived by a brother, Roderick Louis Entrekin, his wife Virginia; her son and only child, Richard Onzelle Rotenberry, Jr.; her granddaughter, Kristine Rotenberry McGee, her husband Martin and five great-grandchildren, Thorburn, Ann Louise, Mary Helen, Leigh-Faires and John-Martin McGee.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 in the Chapel of Central United Methodist Church, Meridian at 10 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Methodist Women of CUMC or the Missions Fund of Central United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Louise Entrekin Rotenberry.
