V.C. "Pete" Kynerd

MERIDIAN —     Services for V.C. "Pete" Kynerd will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home of Meridian. Rev. Dewayne Warren and Rev. Roy Dabbs will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.

    Mr. Kynerd, 88, of Kemper County, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.

    Mr. Kynerd was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He was a longtime cattleman in Kemper County and was also retired as a warehouse supervisor at NAS Meridian, having served 23 years with Civil Service. He loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and was a  member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Kemper Co. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, a hard working man who loved to work with his cattle and very dedicated to his family. Mr. Kynerd and his wife, Velma, began their marital journey on July 14, 1951, having enjoyed a loving life together for the past 62 years.

    In addition to being survived by his wife, he is survived by his son J.R. "Rusty" Kynerd and his wife Jane, granddaughter, Blair Kynerd Landwehr, great grandson, John Sterling Landwehr, nephew, Mike Kynerd and his wife Patsy, and niece, Jan Griffin. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.

    Pallbearers will be John M. Kynerd, Mike Kynerd, Dave Miller, Milton Harbour, Hal Harbour and Willie Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert George and Gary Weaver.

    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the day of the service at Stephens Funeral Home - Meridian.
