Walterine Temple Wilson

MERIDIAN —     JACKSON, Tenn. - Services for Walterine Temple Wilson will be held Saturday, at 10 a.m., at West Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson, Tenn., with Dr. Jerry Tidwell, Rev. Lonnie Sanders and Rev. Ricky Clark officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens with Arrington Funeral Directors of Jackson in charge of arrangements. arringtonfuneralgroup.com.

    Mrs. Wilson, 95, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Regency Retirement Village in Jackson. She was born May 20, 1918 in Bailey, Miss., the daughter of George Lavalle Temple and Ethel White Temple. Mrs. Wilson was a faithful member of West Jackson Baptist Church for over 70 years. She loved the children of West Jackson by serving for over 50 years in the Preschool Ministry as teacher, director and coordinator.

    She was much loved as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was blessed by her quiet inner strength, her ability to see the positive in all people and in all circumstances, as well as her kindness, compassion and generosity to all. Her loving marriage to Pete for over 74 years was an example and testimony of what a Christian marriage should be. The family is very grateful for her loving influence upon their lives.

    Survivors include her husband of over 74 years, James C. “Pete” Wilson; two sons: Larry (Debbie) Wilson of Knoxville, and Dennis (Dianne) Wilson of Auburn, Ala.; one daughter, Ramona (Mark) Yates of Jackson; an “exchange student son”, Ole Briseid (Elisabeth) of Oslo, Norway who has maintained a special relationship with the family for over 50 years; five grandchildren: Trent (Mallory) Wilson, Drew (Allison) Yates, Ben Wilson, Claire (Phillip) Mitchell and Sarah Wilson (fiancé Austin Stephenson); four great-grandchildren: Miller Wilson, Tucker Wilson, Mallie Wilson and Sophie Yates; one sister, Merle Temple Albritton; and, many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by two sisters: Grace Temple Helms Pace, and twin Imogene Temple Riley; and, three brothers: Glynn Temple, Dewayne Temple and George Temple. 

    Any memorial gifts may be sent to West Jackson Baptist Church Building Fund or Union University.

    The family will receive friends today, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Arrington Funeral Home, and before the memorial service Saturday at West Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson.
