Dorothy Druey

MACON —

Funeral services for Dorothy “Sister Dot” Druey will be held today, at 1 p.m., at Butler Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in Newton County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Newton, with Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Druey, 63, wife of Butler Pentecostal Church Pastor Rayburn Druey, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at their home near Shuqualak. “Sister Dot” was born in Philadelphia on Oct. 16, 1947. She was a graduate of Moss Point High School in Moss Point. On May 29, 1964, she married Rayburn Druey and five years later, on their wedding anniversary, their son Bruce was born. She supported her husband in his ministerial efforts, which took them from Mississippi to Alabama and Missouri before returning to serve as shepherds of Butler Pentecostal Church near Shuqualak. Her service as first lady to the church there began on Sept. 5, 1988 and continued until her death.

She was an artist in floral design and enjoyed arts and crafts until her sight failed her in 1998. She was a wonderful pianist and singer who faithfully played for the church and other gatherings, always bringing her joy in the Lord into her music.

She is survived by her husband, Bro. Rayburn Druey of Shuqualak; one son, Bruce (Jennifer) Druey, also of Shuqualak; granddaughter, Anna Claire Druey, whom she loved more than life itself; one sister, Janie Durham Tillman of Conehatta; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Diane and Martin Holmes of Moss Point; and, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Butler Pentecostal Church Building Fund, c/o Mrs. Clytee Lowery, 6132 Butler Road, Macon, MS 39341.
