MERIDIAN — Edwina Byrd White Covington

 

    Services for Edwina Byrd White Covington will be held today at 10 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Eric Mabbott officiating.  Burial will be in Mt Carmel Presbyterian Cemetery in Bailey.

    Mrs. Covington, 87, of Bailey, passed away on June 26, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Meridian.

Mamie Ruth Reed

 

    Funeral services for Mamie Ruth Reed will be held today at 2 p.m. at Pearlie Grove Baptist Church in Quitman, with Elder Charles Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Coke's Chapel Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Reed, 88, of Quitman, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Lakeside Living Center.    Visitation will be Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Pearlie Grove Baptist Church.

 

Evelyn S. Johnson

 

    UNION -- Services for Mrs. Evelyn Smith Johnson, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Jon Martin officiating.  Burial will follow in the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery, with Stephens Funeral Home of Union in charge of the arrangements.

    Mrs. Johnson, age 88, of Union, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, June 26th, at her home in Union.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union, and worked for many years at the Midland Shirt Factory in Union.

    Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Thomas Cooper of Union; six nieces:  Janet Ware Wilkerson, Diane Ware Tarbutton, Glenda Meador, Pauline McElhenney, Juanita McElhenney, and Cathy Gill; and two nephews:  Charles Staton and Gary Lee.

     She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, W. L. Johnson, parents, Ben Ray and Bennie Ellington Smith, and a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Truitt Ware.

    Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home in Union.

    Pallbearers will be the deacons from First Baptist Church of Union:  Joe Cleveland, Dean Russell, Larry Driskell, James Earl Cockerham, Bill Cassel, and Chris Collins.



Elsie Harbour

 

    Funeral services for Elsie Harbour will be held today at 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. James Gibson and Rev. Roy Dabbs officiating.  Interment will be held in the New Hope Church Cemetery.  James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Harbour, 95, of Meridian, passed away on June 27, 2013 at Wisteria Manor.  She was a retired beautician and worked for 52 years at the Griffis Salon.  She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, taking food and visiting the sick.

    She is survived by her sister, Doris Sowers of Quitman; nieces, Pam “Honey” Avery (Larry) of Destin, Fla., Beth Jordan (Pat) of Quitman, Phylis Mastrianni (John) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Beverly Ferguson, Betsy Matthews, Belinda Sowers, Nancy Collier (Mike), all of Meridian; nephews, Tommy Galyean (Cherie) of Meridian, John McCanlis of Moss Point, and Max Fink; and by numerous great nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. and Ethel Irby Galyean.

    Visitation will be held tomorrow at New Hope Baptist Church from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Brenda Talbert

 

    Services for Brenda Talbert will be held today at 3 p.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Spence and Dr. Danny Lanier officiating.  Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery in Neshoba County. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.           

    Mrs. Talbert, 44, of Collinsville, died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.

    She was born in Laurel and moved to Georgia in 1972. She had made her home in Neshoba County since 1980.  Mrs. Talbert was a 1988 graduate of Neshoba Central and married her husband of 23 years on November 23, 1989. She was a stay at home mom and began substitute teaching after her

children started school.  She was a loving wife and mother.

    Survivors include her husband, Richie Ladale Talbert of Collinsville; daughters, Brandy Talbert and Kimberly Talbert both of Collinsville; mother, Evelyn Joyce Hill of Collinsville; sisters, Lisa Bates of Collinsville and Faye Bell of Waycross, Ga.; and brothers, Ed Joyner and Larry Joyner both of Collinsville, Jimmy Hill  and Herman Hill both of Georgia.

    Mrs. Talbert was preceded in death by her father, Hubert Hill and brothers, Mark Joyner and Eugene Hill.

 

Lamar Glen Bishop

           

    PHILADELPHIA -- Services for Lamar Glen Bishop will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in the House community of Neshoba County.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with McClain-Hays Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Bishop, 78, died Friday, June 28, 2013 at Anderson Regional Medical Center-North in Meridian.

    Visitation will be today, June 29, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home in Philadelphia.

 

George Nabile Gager



    Services for George Nabile Gager will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Community Seventh Day Adventist Church, with Pastor Will Labrenz, Elder Roger Burke and Elder Ken Mosier officiating. Burial will be at McGee Cemetery in Chunky with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

    Mr. Gager, 79, of Chunky died June 25, 2013. He was born on June 13, 1934 in Tripoli, Lebanon. He served in the Army by doing a six year tour of duty in San Antonio, Texas at Fort Sam Houston. He had a forty year career as a leader in the Publishing Department and Adventist Book Center.

    Survivors include his wife, Martiel Lisonbee Gager of Chunky, two children, Darryl Gager of Chunky and Tonya Gager Owens and husband Barry Owens of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jessica Gager of Chunky, Sarah Owens, Casey Owens and Blake Owens all of Nashville, Tenn.; great-granddaughter, Ella Randall; three brothers Phillip Gager of Australia, Raymond Gager of Michigan and Adeeb Abraham of Arizona; one sister, Mary Gager of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents Basheer Gager and Najabia Gager.

    Pallbearers will be Gary Williams, Kelvin Mitchell, David Burg, Phil Ray, Jeremy Hopkins, and Marshall Cumberland. Honorary pallbearers will be J. C. McElroy and John Caudill.

Richard Alan Irby

         

    Services for Richard Alan “Speedy” Irby will be held Monday, July 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Springbank Cemetery with Phillip Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Irby, 57, of Butler, Ala. died Friday, June 28, 2013 at Willow Trace Nursing Center.

    Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown, Ala.

 

John William Edwards

 

    MENDENHALL – Services for John William Edwards will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Tutor Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ted Bowlin officiating. Burial will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery with Tutor Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    John W. Edwards, 82, of Mendenhall, died Monday, June 24, 2013. He was born on September 25, 1930, and was a son of the late Albert and Berta "Della" Edwards.

    John served in the U.S. Air Force, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and had retired as District Manager from AT&T after 35 years. He was an active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

    John is survived by: his wife, Cheryl W. Edwards; four sons,  David (Veronica) Edwards, of Austin, TX; Jay Edwards, of Meridian; John (Kathy) Edwards, of Houston, Texas; Jonathan (Tara) Edwards, of Mendenhall; one daughter, Diane Edwards, of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Sue Kinman, of Ruston, La.,  and three grandchildren.

    John is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Lowry.

    Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall.
