MERIDIAN —     A Service of Remembrance for William Hugh Foster will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at Central Baptist Church, Meridian. Bro. Hugh donated his earthly body to the University of Mississippi Medical School. He received his "heavenly" body on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

    Bro. Hugh was born on Aug. 15, 1917, in Nowata, Okla., and spent many years in Ponca City, Okla. After his marriage to Katherine Ann Stanford of Ponca City, Okla., they moved to Maplewood, La. to work in the City Service Refinery. After his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he surrendered to full time Christian Service returning to school graduating from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as education director at churches in Mississippi, Florida, and Louisiana. They were appointed as Southern Baptist Home Missionaries working in inner city programs in Covington, Ky., and the Seamen's Center with internationals in Baton Rouge, La. Bro. Hugh became a highly competitive athlete receiving the honor of Mississippi State Athlete of the Year at the age of 78. He was an active member of the Scrap Iron Class at Central Baptist Church, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. As a resident of Aldersgate, he participated in their activities and acquired many new friends.

    Survivors include daughters: Suzanne Hurst (Charles) of Meridian, and Shannon Maxwell of Boston; grandsons: David Hurst (Rebekah), Tommy Hurst (Pam), Jody Hurst (Twyla) and James Maxwell (Linda); brother, Dean Foster (Sylvia) of Tulsa, Okla.; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and, nieces and nephews.           

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Ann Stanford Foster; a daughter, Martha Foster; his parents; and a brother.

    The family wants to thank the compassionate staff at Aldersgate and Infinity Hospice for their care.
