Freddie Simpson



GILBERTOWN, Ala. — Services for Freddie Simpson will be held today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Church of God with the Revs. Fred Wiley and Pike Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Simpson, 68, of Grove Hill, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Providence Hospital in Mobile.

Survivors include his wife, Penny Simpson; sons, Brad Armistead and Terry Simpson; daughters, Shann Hare, Jan Lambert and Cheryl Mosley; four sisters and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.



Jimmy A. Thompson

UNION — Services for Jimmy A. Thompson will be held today at 2 p.m. at High Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Siles and Daniel Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson, 67, of Union, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Clarke Thompson of Union; a son, Jammy L. Thompson of Union; two grandchildren, Brandon Thompson and Slade Thompson; sisters, Jean Cumberland of Philadelphia, Shirley Boykin of Conehatta, Carolyn Shelton of Brandon and Helen Boykin of Conehatta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Thomas and Lola Bell Thompson and a grandson, Justin Thompson.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of High Hill Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.

Visitation will be today from noon until service time at the church.



Paul Dendy Shaw

LOUISVILLE — Graveside services for Paul Dendy Shaw will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Revs. Sterling Davis and Dan Bearden officiating. Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shaw, 74, of Louisville, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Winston Medical Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Eudine Shaw; daughters, Sharon Futch and Tanya Thompson; two sisters; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be today from 1 p.m.- 2 p.m. at the funeral home.



Jo Lynn Haney

QUITMAN — Services for Jo Lynn Haney will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Neal and Grady Crowell officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Wright’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haney, 74, of Quitman, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. She was a church secretary.

Survivors include her husband, Claude Haney Jr. of Quitman; daughters, Beverly West and her husband, David, of Shubuta, Kimberly Blackburn and her husband, John, of Quitman and Allison Smith and her husband, Daryl, of Picayune; a brother, Howard Donald of Meridian; a sister, Sherry Storey of West Point; grandchildren, Lee Blackburn and his wife, Chasity, Casey Harris and her husband, Michael, Karen Blackburn, all of Quitman, Jonathan Smith of Picayune; great-grandchildren, Will Harris and Whitley Harris, both of Quitman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Travis and Gladys Estelle Donald and a brother Dudley Donald.

Pallbearers will be Lee Blackburn, John Blackburn, Daryl Smith, Michael Harris, David West and Patrick Cranford.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.



George Lewis



Services for George Lewis will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Griggs II officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Collinsville. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lewis, 92, of Collinsville, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, in his home.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the funeral home.



Ernest Crosby Moss, Jr.



JACKSON — Memorial services for Ernest Crosby Moss Jr. will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moss, 87, died Wednesday, October 17, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 15, 1920, in Meridian to Alice Virginia Shirley and Ernest Crosby Moss. He attended Meridian public schools and served in the U.S. Army during World Word II before moving to Jackson in 1946. He moved to St. Catherine’s Village in 2006.

During his professional career, Mr. Moss was associated with General Motors Corporation, served as director of the Mississippi Commission on Hospital Care, and retired from the Mississippi Economic Council.

He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, where he was a life deacon.

Survivors include his daughter, Nina Carol Moss of Jackson; sons, Ernest Crosby Moss III and his wife, Nancy Lang, of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Stephen Michael Moss of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, William O. Moss and his wife, Jane, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Eileen O’Rorke Soulé of Meridian.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nina O’Rorke Moss; his sisters, Olive Louise Davis, Alice Virginia Clift, Shirley Hayes, and Kathryn Hodge.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jackson 431 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39201; St. Joseph Catholic School 308 New Mannsdale Road, Madison, MS 39110; or to St. Catherine’s Village Foundation 200 Dominican Drive, Madison, MS 39110.

Visitation will be at the Saturday from 11 a.m. to the time of the service at the church.



Sally Jenkins



BUTLER, Ala. — Services for Sally Jenkins will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shady Grove Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jenkins, 77, of Butler, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in Butler.

Survivors include her husband, Sam Jenkins; sons, Richard Jenkins, Alman Jenkins and Slater Jenkins; one brother; two sisters and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rue, 85, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in Pascagoula.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the community chapel in Meridian.



Nellie Lee Burnett

Retired educator





PHILADELPHIA — Services for Nellie Lee Burnett will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lynville United Methodist Church in Preston with the Revs. Scott Carter and Randy Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Lynville Cemetery in Kemper County. McClain-Hays Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Burnett, 90, died Thursday, October 18, 2007, at Queen City Nursing Center in Meridian. She was a native of the Lynville Community in Kemper County where she made her home most of her life. She was a member of Lynville United Methodist Church. Miss Burnett was a public school teacher in Kemper County for many years.

Survivors include her sister, Annie B. Harris of Meridian; sisters-in-law, Louise Burnett of Jonesboro, Ga. and Ngoc Burnett of Memphis, Tenn.; three nieces; four nephews; a several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alsey and Jerusha Burnett; two brothers, Burk M. Burnett and Clark B. Burnett.

Memorials may be made to: The Palmer House for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703 or French Camp Academy, French Camp, MS 39745.

Pallbearers will be Roy Peden, James Kain, Norman Davis, Todd May, Sam Fulton, Glen Dees, Jared Harris and Greg Wilson.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 4 p.m.-7p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to service at the church on Sunday.



Winifred Irby May



Services for Winifred Irby “Winnie” May will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Mediator with the Rev. Helen Tester officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. May, 80, of Meridian, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, in her home.

Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.

Arrangements were incomplete at Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home for Tami Jackson, 39, of Lawrence, who died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Guardian Angel Hospice.
