Irmertee Todd Roach
Services for Irmertee “Muh” Todd Roach will be held Monday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Roach, 92, of Meridian, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, in her home. She was born on June 21, 1915, in Horne, to the now late Ida Whittaker and Henry Moody. She attended grade school in Clarke County in Quitman and continued her education at St. Joseph Mission School in Meridian. She attended Meridian Junior College, where she completed the Hospital Sitters Course. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age.
Survivors include her children, Thelma Robinson of Meridian, Cassie Mae Brown of Detroit, Carl L. Todd Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Meridian, Hattie Lue Gordon and her husband, James, of Meridian, Ida Bea Tomlin and her husband, Samuel, of West Bloomfield, Mich. and Paul Todd of Detroit; her son in Christ, John Watson of Meridian; a sister-in-law, Marian Jackson of Springfield, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; nephews, Paul “P.L.” Parker and his wife, Fran, Samuel “Buddy” Nicholson and her best friends, Edna Mae Smith and Christine Chamberlain and several other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl L. Todd Sr. and Johnny Roach; her parents; her sister, Lillian “Baby” Sulton; her brother Abraham “Buddy” Jackson and a great-grandson, Devin Brown .
Visitation will be from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the funeral home with family hour from 7 p.m.- 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-10:50 a.m. at the church.
Edwin Laird
UNION — Services for Edwin Laird will be held today at 11 a.m. at Milling Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Derrick Simmons and Dave Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Laird, 72, of Little Rock, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, in his home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Military.
Survivors include his wife of more than 55 years, Carol Laird; daughters, Faith Laird and Ann Dean; two grandsons and one sister.
Vernon Rawlings III
Architect
Services for Vernon Rawlings III will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Darrell Barton officiating. Burial will be Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Rawlings, 52,of Meridian, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in his home. He was a member of North Park Church. He was a member of A.I.A. and was an architect with B.B. Archer. He was a graduate of Meridian High School and Mississippi State University School of Architecture.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Rawlings of Meridian; daughters, Leah Rawlings of Ohio and Kathryn Rawlings of Meridian; parents, Vernon and Mary Belle Rawlings Jr. of Meridian; sisters, Rhonda Shannon and her husband Len, of Madison and Karen Camp and her husband, Bob, of Ridgeland; a brother, Walker Rawlings of Meridian; his mother and father-in-law, Kelly and Lavonne McGavock of Gulfport and several other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Len Shannon, Bob Camp, Paul Allen, Harold Harris, B.B. Archer, Mark McGavock, Mark Trochbgset and Michael Costelli.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Tyler Brae’Dean Sam
PHILADELPHIA — Services for Tyler Brae’Dean Sam will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Standing Pine Cemetery in Walnut Grove. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
Infant Sam, four weeks, of Walnut Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Survivors include his mother, Deesha Marie Willis; his father, Braden Sam; brothers, Deangelo Lovato and Tyrus C-Ray Sam; grandparents and great-grandparents.
Gerald W. Clearman
Retired
Services for Gerald W. Clearman will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Revs. Dr. Tom Sikes and Lucian Lee officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Clearman, 64, of Collinsville, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, in his home. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired metallurgical Engineer with CA Street Industries in Fontana, Calif. He was recently retired and moved back to Collinsville last year. He loved reading and playing chess.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Clearman of Collinsville; children, Charles Clearman and his wife, Pam, of Diamond Lake, Ore., Michael Spiva and his wife, Debbie, of Grizzly Flats, Calif., Steven Clearman and his wife, Lorraine, of Grants Pass, Ore., Scott Spiva of San Bernadino, Calif., and Kimberly Vargas and her husband, Isaias, of San Clemente, Calif.; parents, X.L. and Winona Clearman of Collinsville; a sister, Linda Evans and her husband, Kerry, of Temecula, Calif.; grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle, Cody, Crista, Tyler, Chelsie, Kaitlyn and David; one great-grandchild, Jasmine and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tom Sikes Sunday School Class at First Christian Church.
Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Revis Burton
Services for Revis Burton will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church in DeKalb with the Rev. S.M. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burton, 85, of DeKalb, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Guardian Angel Hospice. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army.
Visitation will be today from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
James Joseph Hawkins
Services for James Joseph “J.J.” Hawkins will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Meehan with the Revs. Ben Laird and Terrance Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hawkins, 23, of Meehan, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in Meehan.
He was a member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ as his own at the age of nine. He was a graduate of Clarkdale High School where he was listed as Who’s Who Among American High School Students. He earned an associate’s degree in biology from Meridian Community College. He attended Mississippi State University for one year pursuing a bachelor’s degree in science. He was currently attending Meridian Community College’s School of Nursing. He was recently certified as a Fire Fighter and was a member of Meehan Volunteer Fire Department. He was a certified scuba diver and was completing his certification as a rescue diver. He held a brown belt in Karate. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, paintball, diving, swimming, painting and photography. He loved the Bible verse, Job 1:21, “The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Survivors include his parents, James Windell and Joann Hawkins of Meehan; brother, Adam Hawkins of Meehan; his fiancé Tracie Bland and her parents, Joe and Ann Bland of the Martin Community; aunts and uncles, Mary Baxley and her husband, Gary, of Jackson, Jason Baxley of Alabama, Debbie Smith and her husband, Melvin, of North Carolina, Cathy Woodham of Meehan, Judy Allbrooks and her husband, John, of Meridian, Eugene Eakes and his wife, Lisa, of Meridian; surrogate grandparents, Raymond and Louise Clearman and their children, Curtis and Charles Clearman and several cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Meehan Volunteer Fire Department.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Schroeder and members of the Meehan Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Faithy Reynolds Knight
PHILADELPHIA — Services for Faithy Reynolds Knight will be held Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Louisville with the Rev. Arthur Story officiating. Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in the House Community of Neshoba County. McClain-Hays Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Knight, 91, died Saturday, September 29, 2007, in Texas. She was born October 6, 1915, in the House Community of Neshoba County. She and her now late husband, Joseph Lavelle Knight, lived in Louisville from 1947 until his death in 2003. She then moved to Houston, Texas in January 2004, to be close to her daughter, Faye Knight Fancher.
Mrs. Knight was an active member of First Baptist Church in Louisville for more 50 years, teaching Sunday School in the Children Division for many years. She was also active in the Women’s Missionary Union.
Survivors include her daughter; Faye Fancher and her husband, Emmett of Houston, Texas; her son, Jeff Knight and his wife, Marcella, of Davenport, Okla.; five grandchildren, Don Fancher and his wife, Tess, of Atlanta, Jeff Fancher and his wife, Linda, of Annandale, N.J., Jeff Knight, Jr. of San Francisco, Joseph “Joey” Knight of El Reno, Okla., Maranda Knight of Overland Park, Kan.; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Fancher, Will Fancher, Tate Fancher, Lauren Fancher and Lindsey Fancher.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Joseph Lavelle Knight ; her parents, Tom and Louetta Reynolds and her sister, Eva Mae Rush.
Visitation will be held Friday from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday from 10 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Glenda Pearson
A private family graveside service for Glenda Pearson will be held at a later date. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Pearson, 69, of Meridian, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Heartfelt Hospice.
Survivors include her niece, Brenda Wilkins of Meridian; a brother, Robert Pearson and his wife, Peggy, of Collinsville; a sister, Hazel Wilkins of Meridian and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ola Pearson; brothers, Lavern Pearson and Tom Pearson and a sister, Ruth Pearson.
Tommie L. Pearson
Arrangements were incomplete at Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home for Tommie L. Pearson, 92, of Marion, who died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Riley Hospital.
