Bernice Cranford Goodman
Graveside services for Bernice Cranford Goodman will be held today at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Peterman officiating. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Goodman, 85, of Meridian, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, in Hattiesburg.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Wesley Goodman of Meridian; a son, David Goodman and his wife, Linda, of Hattiesburg; two sisters, Jean Peterman of Gulfport and Rose Price of Emerald Isle, N.C.; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tommie Jean Stead.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral hall.
Kate Alawine
Retired bookkeeper
Services for Kate Alawine will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Prospect Congregional Methodist Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Alawine, 93, of Collinsville, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She retired as bookkeeper for Stephens Floor Covering.
Survivors include a brother, Will Alawine and his wife, Barbara, of Vernon, Ala.; a sister, Ellen Stephens and her husband, the Rev. Carl Stephens, of Collinsville; five nieces and nephews, Ruth Beeman of Gainesville, Fla., Debbie Hahn of Richmond, Va., Billy Alawine of Meridian, David Alawine of Charlottesville, Va., and Sheila Hutchens of Hearnden, Va.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James T. and Sadie O’Neal Alawine; two brothers, J.T. Alawine and Alton Alawine; and two nephews, Alton Alawine Jr. and Russell Alawine.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Robert J. Evans
Graveside services for Robert J. Evans will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at West Mt. Moriah Cemetery, with the Rev. Alvin Clay officiating. Berry & Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Evans, 78, of Meridian, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at Heartfelt Hospice.
Verna Lee Smith

SEBASTOPOL — Services for Verna Lee Smith will be held Friday at noon at Milling Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Chester Estes officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith,92, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at Beverly Living Center in Carthage. She was a loving caretaker of many homeless pets she considered her children.
Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Howard Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Charles Gould, George Cook, Jack Granade, Bill Smith, Earl Thrash and Jamie Cowgill.
A.V. Miller Alford
Services for A.V. Miller Alford will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Berry & Gardner Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Dennis Hardaway and Cephus McMillan officiating. Burial will be in Musgrove Cemetery, Enterprise.
Mr. Alford, 24, of Mesquite, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in Dallas, Texas. He was employed by Baylor Medical Center, Dallas.
Survivors include his parents, Sylvia D. Alford and A.V. “Baby Ray” Miller, both of Meridian; a sister, Collette L. Green of Meridian; and his fiance’, Kelly Oneal of Mesquite.
Visitation will be held Friday, from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mance Bell Sr.
Retired, Army
Services for Mance Bell Sr. will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Fellowship Baptist Church in Boligee, Ala., with the Rev. William Branch officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Clark’s Memorial Funeral Home of Meridian in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bell, 84, of Boligee, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis, Ala.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4 p.m-5 p.m., at the funeral home.
Florence D. Reese
Retired, Wal-Mart
THOMSON, Ga. — Services for Florence D. Reese will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, Thomson, GA. with the Rev. John Prater officiating. Burial will be in Marshall Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ms. Reese of Thomson died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at University Hospital, Augusta. Born in Lauderdale County, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Grady Wiggins and the late Carrie I. Garrett Wiggins. Ms. Reese lived in Thomson most of her life. She worked at Uniroyal in Thomson for 18 years and retired as a baker from Wal-Mart. She was a member of Marshall Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Ruben Reese and his wife, Lucy, of Stapleton, Ga.; three sisters, Mary Wright of Lauderdale County, Edith Wiggins of Cuba, Ala., and Maxine Towbridge of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, John Wiggins of Lauderdale, Miss., and Larry Wiggins of Purvis, Miss; and a grandson, Scott Reese of Appling, Ga.
Visitation will be held today, from 7 p.m.-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
