White-tail deer season opens Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi's white-tailed deer hunting season with guns opens Saturday and runs through Dec. 1.

Hunting with dogs is allowed during this season.

Legal deer include antlerless deer and legal bucks on private lands and legal bucks on open public lands.

Wildlife officials say a hunter must wear in full view at least 500 square inches of solid, unbroken fluorescent orange. This requirement does not apply while the hunter is in a fully enclosed deer stand.

Persons born on or after Jan. 1, 1972, are required to complete a hunter education course before buying a hunting license. Residents ages 16 to 64 must obtain a hunting license except for hunting on lands titled in his/her name.
