Man faces murder charges in death of women

SUMMIT, MIss. — Corey Cowart held $1M bond

SUMMIT, Miss. (AP) — A Louisiana man is being held on $1 million bond on charges in the slayings of two McComb women at a home in Summit, Miss.

Summit Municipal Court Judge Jose Simo set the bond this past week for 36-year-old Corey Cowart of Kenner, La. Cowart is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of 30-year-old Christie L. Wells and 39-year-old Tomecka D. Williams. Police say the shooting occurred last week at a home where Cowart was living.

The Enterprise-Journal reports ( ) that Cowart did not enter a plea to the charges. He is to be back in city court on Thursday.

Police Chief Kenny Cotton says Cowart was arrested shortly after the shooting near a convenience store on U.S. Highway 51 in Summit.
