BROOKHAVEN, Miss. — A Lincoln County sheriff's deputy was taken to a Jackson hospital after he was shot while on duty.
Sheriff Steve Rushing told The Daily Leader (http://bit.ly/WnwHGq ) that the deputy, Byron Catchings, was driving down a street in Brookhaven on Friday night when he was apparently shot once through the driver's side door.
Catchings kept driving and radioed for help before he was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. His condition wasn't immediately available, but Rushing said he didn't lose consciousness before he was taken to the hospital.
Rushing said investigators were questioning a "person of interest" in the shooting but didn't elaborate.
