New trial date for Dutschke in ricin-letter plot

ABERDEEN, Miss. —

An October trial date is set for a 41-year-old Tupelo man accused in a poison-letter scheme aimed at President Obama and two other elected officials.

On Monday, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock granted a delay from July 29 until Oct. 7 to try James Everett Dutschke.

Dutschke is a former martial arts instructor arrested in late April after federal investigator claimed they linked him to letters mailed to Obama, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker of Tupelo and Lee County Justice Court Judge Sadie Holland.

Dutschke insists he had nothing to do with the letters or an alleged attempt to blame another man for the crime.

He remains in the Lafayette County Detention Center without bond.

Mississippi could borrow $20 million to help Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. update its factory in Tupelo. In return the company would pledge to maintain at least 1,300 jobs and invest $140 million in the plant. Do you think this is a good investment on the state's part?
