BAY SPRINGS, Miss. — A man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of murder in the 2011 death of his wife.

The Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/17JAlli ) that a Jasper County jury convicted Shannon L. Rayner this past week in the death Sonya Hunt Rayner at his family's home in Bay Springs on Feb. 15, 2011. Shannon Rayner was acquitted of arson.

Prosecutors say Sonya Rayner died of blunt force trauma and the house set on fire. Shannon Rayner escaped from the fire but his wife did not. Her body was found in the house, which also was used as a deer camp.

Prosecutors say the couple lived in Madison County but were visiting over Valentine's Day at Shannon Rayner's family home in Bay Springs.
