FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Authorities have arrested the Fayetteville High School athletic director after police said he allegedly tried to set up a sexual encounter with a detective posing online as an underage girl.
Fifty-year-old Barry Gebhart was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge of internet stalking of a child. According to an affidavit, authorities arrested Gebhart after he arrived at a Rogers shopping mall for a meeting set up by undercover officers.
Fayetteville Superintendent Vicki Thomas says Gebhart has been placed on leave.
The affidavit alleges that Gebhart communicated with a detective posing as an underage girl on the social networking application Whisper. The affidavit claims Gebhart made sexual comments and sent an explicit photograph.
Gebhart was released from jail Wednesday after posting bond. His attorney, Terry Harper, declined to comment.
