Police: Homeowner shoots, kills intruder

MONTICELLO —

MONTICELLO, Miss. (AP) — Lawrence County authorities say a homeowner shot and killed an intruder.

WLBT TV reports (http://bit.ly/1fAtMmN ) the shooting happened at a mobile home just outside the Monticello city limits.

Sheriff Joel Thames says dispatchers received a call from David Maxwell at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Maxwell said his dog was barking and it woke him up. When he got up to investigate, he found a man in his kitchen and shot him.

When deputies arrived on the scene, Thames says they found 30-year-old Matthew James Javor, of Ruth, dead on Maxwell's back porch.

Maxwell said he also fired at a second suspect in a pickup, but he wasn't sure if he hit him. That suspect was able to get away.
