Pearl River authorities look into shooting death

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River County sheriff's deputies are investigating an apparent shooting death.

Sheriff David Allison says the body of 37-year-old James Raine was discovered at his home.

The Sheriff said Raine's body was found Friday by his mother, who had gone to check on him after nobody had heard from him for several hours. Authorities say he had been shot.

Police say they've been interviewing witnesses

. The victim's wife was out of town. She told investigators that he had contacted her early Friday morning, several hours before he is believed to have died.
