Autopsy: Man found in Hattiesburg beaten to death

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — An autopsy shows a Florida man found dead at a hotel on U.S. Highway 49 had been beaten to death.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/15QB2pt ) the body of 51-year-old William Arthur Kane was found Tuesday.

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict says preliminary autopsy results indicate he died of blows to the head. The case is being classified as a homicide.

Hattiesburg police spokesman Lt. Jon Traxler says housekeeping workers at the Budget Inn found Kane around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

He was in town working with an asphalt crew.

Police say they continue to investigate the killing.
