5 intend to plead guilty in child abduction case

JACKSON, Miss. — Five people intend to plead guilty in an alleged scheme to kidnap a 6-year-old girl in Mississippi in order to pressure her mother in a land deal.

The change of plea hearing was announced in court records Tuesday. An indictment released earlier this year shows the girl was taken from the East Kemper Elementary School on April 30. She was let go, unharmed, the next day after police issued an Amber Alert.

Police say Jesse Mae Brown Pollard, a cousin of the child's mother, orchestrated the plan. A son and former University of Alabama basketball player, Devonta Pollard, has been charged with conspiracy.

Both have pleaded not guilty and plan to go to trial.

Details of the land deal were not spelled out in the court records.
