Highway Patrol officer wins DUI award

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (AP) — A Northeast Mississippi Highway Patrol officer has won an award making the most DUI arrests in 2012.

The state Department of Public Safety announced Thursday that Trooper Chris White made 315 DUI arrests in 2012. White was honored at the annual luncheon in Olive Branch.

Troopers in Troop F, which covers Benton, Alcorn, Tishomingo, Tippah, Prentiss, Union, Pontotoc, Lee and Itawamba Counties, made 1,632 DUI arrests last year.

MHP Director Col. Donnell Berry says in a news release that during 2012, Mississippi had fewer alcohol-related fatalities than any other year in recent memory.

White is assigned to Prentiss County and is an active member of the Highway Patrol's special operations group.

Overall, 16 Highway Patrol officers received awards for making the most DUI arrests.
