WWII vet of women's corps to be honored

CAMP SHELBY, Miss. —

A World War II veteran of the Women's Army Corps is soon to be honored at Mississippi's Camp Shelby.

The Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center and U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo will honor Maybert Titus Polk, on Friday. The ceremony will be held at Camp Shelby's Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at 10 a.m.

Now a resident of Jefferson Davis County, Polk is a Pennsylvania native. She joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served as a radio technician repairing radios on fighter planes during World War II.

Polk was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945.

A Camp Shelby news release says Congressman Palazzo will present Polk with the Women's Army Corps Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the World War II Honorable Service Lapel Button.
