Judge agrees to hearing on Winfield lawsuit

JACKSON, Miss. —

A federal judge has agreed to hold a hearing on requests to seal documents in Kenya Burks' sexual harassment suit against the city and Mayor Paul Winfield.

The Vicksburg Post reports that U.S. Magistrate Michael T. Parker on Monday granted a motion from Winfield's lawyers seeking a hearing, with a date to be set later.

Parker says Burks must file responses by Friday to support her effort to obtain more answers from Winfield in discovery and the city's motion to keep information they deem "salacious" or of a sexual nature out of the public domain.

Burks is suing Winfield and the city for more than $1.5 million. She has claimed she was subjected to a hostile work environment and retaliation after what she says was a consensual affair soured.
