Man accused in hit-and-run of Vicksburg child dies

VICKSBURG, Miss. —

A 49-year-old Vicksburg man accused of hitting a child while driving drunk and leaving the scene has died.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace tells WLBT TV Alvin Edwards Willis died of natural causes at River Region Medical Center on Wednesday. Willis was in police custody and being held on $250,000 bond.

Pace says Willis was arrested April 16 and charged with aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. He was accused of hitting 8-year-old Kenneth Hall Jr., while Kenneth was riding his bike.

Officials say Hall remains at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in serious condition.
