GE Aviation plant opens in Ellisville

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (AP) — State, local and GE Aviation officials were on hand Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the company's Ellisville aviation composites factory. The plant is expected to add 250 jobs by 2017.

The Hattiesburg American reports ( ) the 340,00-square-foot facility, located in the Howard Technology Park, will produce composite parts for two new jet engine programs — the LEAP jet engine and GE's new Passport jet engine. The site also will produce the transcowl, a component of the thrust reverser in jet engines.

The new location — formally known as GE Aviation's Ellisville Composites facility — will add up to 40 jobs in 2013.

The Ellisville plant is GE's second aviation composites factory in the state — the company opened a 300,000-square-foot facility in Batesville in 2008.
