PICAYUNE — A Picayune man has been charged with multiple counts of misdemeanor animal neglect after five dogs he owned had to be euthanized.

The Picayune Item reports (http://bit.ly/UnqsSr) that the animals were found at an abandoned this past week.

Police Chief Jeremy Magri says Christopher Scott Mickel is charged with five counts of confining an animal without food or water, failure to provide sustenance, failure to register dogs with the city and failure to vaccinate them. No court date has been scheduled.

Magri says when officers arrived at the home two pit bulls were dead and still chained. Magri says another pit bull and two Labradors were euthanized.

Magri says records show Mickel had been warned in December of the condition of the animals.
