Hood: 2 former officers arrested in joint probe

JACKSON, Miss. — Two former Columbia police officers have been arrested on drug charges.

Attorney General Jim Hood said Tuesday that 35-year-old Michael Steven Bullock, of Hattiesburg, and 45-year-old Herbert Cocroft, of Sumrall, were arrested a day earlier at their homes after an indictment was handed up by a Marion County Grand Jury.

Bullock faces two counts of conspiracy to transfer controlled substances, while Cocroft faces one count of the same charge. It was not immediately known if either had an attorney.

Hood, in a news release, says the charges stem from actions that took place while Bullock and Cocroft were on duty with the police department. Further details were not provided.

The case was investigated through a joint operation by Hood's Public Integrity Division and agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.
