MSU police chief on paid leave

STARKVILLE, Miss — Mississippi State University says its campus police chief has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an investigation into charges against her in the city of Starkville.

Authorities have been looking into allegations that Georgia Lindley left the scene of an accident in Starkville. Her husband, Starkville Police Chief David Lindley has said he will retire effective Dec. 31.

David Lindley has said his wife recently brushed someone's bumper in a church parking lot but left the scene because she didn't know she'd hit someone. However, he says an accident report was filed once his wife realized what she did.

No one has confirmed if this led to David Lindley's retirement.

"At this time, the duties of chief of the MSU Police Department have been fully vested in MSU Assistant Chief Kenneth Spencer on an interim basis. There is no higher priority at Mississippi State University than the safety of our students and the rest of the university community," Bill Kibler, MSU's vice president for student affairs said in a news release.

In the city of Starkville, former Assistant Chief John Outlaw has been named interim chief until David Lindley's replacement is found.

Do you think the city of Meridian should have tried harder to find funding to repair the dam at Long Creek Reservoir before deciding to drain the lake?
