Felon gets 10 years in prison for having firearm

GULPORT, Miss. — D'Iberville felon has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined $5,000 for having a weapon.

The Sun Herald reports ( ) 33-year-old Jarvis Romaine Bell had a cocaine-possession conviction when Biloxi police pulled him over for reckless driving June 23, 2012.

Bell was found with a 9 mm Springfield pistol and ammunition. Court papers show the weapon's serial number had been altered.

Bell pleaded guilty March 27 to possession of a firearm by a felon.

At his sentencing on Wednesday, Chief U.S. Judge Walter J. Gex ordered Bell to forfeit the weapon and ammunition seized in the investigation. The judge also ordered three years of probation after Bell's prison term is served.
