Reward offered in mailbox explosives

MCCOMB, MS — MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) — A $1,500 reward is being offered in Pike County for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for placing explosive devices in mailboxes.

Chief Deputy Steve Rushing tells the Enterprise-Journal (http://bit.ly/15U5LWe ) that devices were used at least two mailboxes — one at a home and another at local Baptist association building. No one has been hurt.

Rushing says the state crime lab is examining the devices. He says both are similar to a device tossed in street outside a movie theater over the weekend.

Authorities say the devices are chemical improvised explosives that typically feature a plastic bottle casing.

Authorities say the devices are unstable. They say instead of utilizing a trigger or fuse, the detonation typically occurs seconds after the plastic bottle is sealed.

Mississippi could borrow $20 million to help Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. update its factory in Tupelo. In return the company would pledge to maintain at least 1,300 jobs and invest $140 million in the plant. Do you think this is a good investment on the state's part?
